To be and to dance are one and the same, says Gašper Kunšek. That he creates within the medium of dance, a medium of movement and mutability, already implies that "being" is not a fixed entity, but rather a space of variation, transformation, and construction. But what are the conditions for change? We are entering the author's theory of inner transformation.
Sun & Iron is a process of preparation and purification that demands the artist's disciplining of body and spirit. Kunšek references radical yogis who sought uncompromising truth through extreme living. Kunšek's body becomes a dancing machine; his movements, imbued with effort and silence, are part of an ancient, almost forgotten language through which art reveals meaning.
The author's signature aesthetics and methodology come to the forefront, but on a new level. Sun & Iron weaves together dances ranging from classical ballet, contemporary dance, and performance art to street breakdancing and hip-hop, shattering the polarized relationship between the beautiful and the brutal, the controlled and the uninhibited.
